Hand Doctors Houston - Mucous Cyst
COMMON TREATMENT OPTIONS
Associated with osteoarthritis, mucous cysts are most common in patients between 50 and 70 years of age. These fluid-filled sacs form on the fingers between the nail and the finger’s top joint. Mucous cysts are not harmful and often cause no pain, so treatment is not always necessary. In cases where the cysts cause excessive pain or bother the patient from a cosmetic standpoint, they may be treated surgically. The focus of the surgery is to remove an underlying bone spur as the cyst is merely a resulting symptom.
Houston hand surgeon Dr. Fiore is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and fellowship trained in hand and microsurgery. For more information about Mucous cysts, or to schedule a consultation, call Cy-Fair Hand and Wrist Surgical Associates at (281) 970-8002.
